With Hotch turning down Morgan’s invitation to the “Singles Valentine’s Survival Night” with a polite smirk and a vague mention of “other plans.”

Morgan shrugs and decides to focus on the other ‘single’ member of the BAU. His gaze lands on Reid who is still seated, hands methodically flipping through his paperwork rushing it like he’s late for something.

“Hey, Pretty Boy,” Morgan grins. “You coming out with us? Drinks, dancing, Garcia trying to make everyone sing Shania Twain- what more could you want?”

Spencer glances up, with a quick“Oh. Uh. No, I can’t tonight.”which makes Garcia gasp theatrically from across the room. “What do you mean can’t? Spencer, it’s Valentine’s Day. You have to be miserable and mildly intoxicated with the rest of us.”

    “I’m not miserable,”

He says quickly. Almost too quickly. Making Emily raise an eyebrow. “Wait… are you-“ she speculated but was immediately cut off.

    “Nope,”

Spencer says, standing up so fast he bumps into the desk behind him because as much as he loved his team like a family he had better things to be doing right now.

“Nope. Nothing. I mean- no, I’m just really tired. Long case, you know?”

He reaches for his satchel and fumbles the zipper. Twice even though it’s not needed at all. “Come on,” Morgan presses, grinning now. “What, you got a hot date we don’t know about?”

“I just… I’ve been gone for a few days. I’d really like to get home.”

It’s not a lie. Just… not the whole truth. Spencer then clears his throat deciding the conversation has gone on too long.

    “I’ll see you guys Monday.”

And before anyone can corner him with another round of teasing, he’s halfway down the hallway, coat draped over one arm, fingers tapping nervously against his leg.

The others are still trying to guess who he might be seeing.

    But Spencer?

He’s already picturing the look on your face when he finally walks through that door. Roses in one hand, a book in the other, and all that time apart ready to be erased with a kiss and a cute valentines date.
