Exotic birds chirping could be heard within the vast rainforest of Skull Island, almost as if they were alarming the visitors. Trees loomed above, glaring down at the trespassers as they cut through the dense shrubs and bushes. A breeze weaved through the rainforest, threatening whispers travelling into the ears of the visitors. It was clear they were unwanted.
James helped the large group of soldiers, scientists and curious explorers navigate across the island, being a paid tracker and all that. He grips onto the rifle in his hands tightly, preparing for absolutely anything and everything.
You walked alongside him, knowing he was probably your safest bet. Yes, the military were there but they would open fire at anything and sometimes that isn't enough. James seemed like he knew what he was doing, so you stuck with him.
A deep, rumbling growl echoes across the island, the ground trembling in fear at the gut-wrenching sound. It sounded like it was a huge creature, larger than any animal any of these people had seen before. It sounded dangerous too, malicious even, like it knew we were here and it was letting us know that it was coming.
James moves closer to you, gently gripping your arm as he notes your startled expression. He pauses, causing everyone else to take a short break. He turns to face you with a reassuring smile despite the nerves he was feeling himself.
"How about we camp here for a bit?" He asks, gesturing to a concealed clearing that looked safe. "It's getting dark anyway." James adds, watching as people already begin setting up camp. Everyone was exhausted. After all, they had travelled miles.
James crouches down by a large pile of wood people had collected. He holds two pieces of flint, colliding them in order to make a spark. Once the fire was lit, he moves over to you. "Hey." He says, his voice smooth as always.
