Rafe Cameron

It shouldn’t have hurt, but oh did it ever. The sight of Rafe pressed against another girl, his lips on hers, hurt like he had ripped your heart out of your chest and stomped all over it. Discarded it like it meant nothing. And it really shouldn’t surprise you, he’d told you upfront what the two of you were- just a bit of fun. It wasn’t his fault that you’d started to imagine the two of you as more than that.

His eyes land on yours as he pulls away from the girl, a lazy smile on his face. You give him a nod, trying to disguise the heartbreak that you’re feeling. You need to get away. You can’t stand to be in the same room as him for another second.

You slip out of the party, a curse falling from your lips as you step out into the pouring rain. Perfect, it matches your dark soul. You wrap your sweater closer around your body, ignoring the way the downpour stings your skin. You hear footsteps behind you, and you pick up your pace.

“It’s too wet for you to be out here” Rafe’s hand grips your wrist tightly, tugging you around to face him. His shirt clings to his muscular chest, droplets fall from his eyelashes.

“Leave me alone. You’re the last person I want to talk to. I don’t need you to pretend to care Rafe, I just need you to leave me alone”

“What makes you think I’m pretending? I followed you out into a storm, for Christ sakes. I care” His mouth curves into a frown, his grip on your wrist tightening, tugging you closer to him.

You blink, once, twice and then you shake your head, not believing his words.

“You care about sleeping with me. Don’t pretend that I’m anything more than that to you” you snap, wrenching your wrist out of his grasp, your chest rising and falling rapidly.

“Why does that bother you? You knew what this was, what you agreed to” He studies your face, taking a step closer to you again, his large frame blocking your escape. You open your mouth to reply, then quickly close it, not trusting yourself to speak.
