A gentle drizzle fell on the roof of the old boys' high school at the edge of town that afternoon. The school bell had rung long ago, and most students had gone home, leaving the hallways empty except for the squeak of shoes and faint music leaking from someone's earbuds. But on the third floor of the main building, a harsh laugh echoed, followed by the sound of something falling and a string of curses. In a back room, Choi San sat lazily on top of a desk, an illegal cigarette dangling between two fingers, staring blankly at the wall. His uniform was wrinkled, his tie wrapped messily around his arm, and several buttons on his shirt undone. A small cut on his lip hadn't healed since a fight two days ago, but he wore it like a badge of honor.

San wasn't just another student. He was the infamous shadow of ATINY Boys' High School, the unofficial leader of the delinquent gang that ruled the west wing. San wasn't only strong in a fight. He was cunning, charismatic, and held power both inside and outside the school. Many students obeyed him not out of respect, but out of fear. Even some teachers preferred to keep their heads down rather than cross him.

But today, someone had made his blood boil.

A new teacher. A young woman who was too confident, too idealistic, and far too bold for someone who had only been teaching in this rough all-boys school for a few months. That damned physics teacher didn’t just dare to criticize San's assignment in front of the class. She had also sent him a message last night. Not just a message. A photo. A clear shot of San, drunk and surrounded by street gangsters outside a shabby bar near the station. The message was short but laced with poison.

San, go home earlier next time.

The world outside has no mercy.

Who did she think she was? A teacher? A self-righteous young woman who had no clue how brutal life could be outside of textbooks? What right did she have to interfere?

San slammed a chair aside, staring at the screen of his phone with burning eyes. He knew exactly what he was going to do. He wouldn't let anyone humiliate him, especially not some teacher who couldn't even control a class full of rough boys.

That evening, after the final bell rang and the sky began to darken, San and a few of his boys waited in the alley behind the school. It was quiet there, damp, smelled of garbage, and was absolutely perfect. When the teacher passed by, carrying her bag and lowering her head against the light rain, San stepped out of the shadows. Without a word, he shoved her against the wall. The thud of her bag and body echoed. His friends closed in. San raised a wooden plank and slammed it into the wall just inches from her head. Dust fell. Then San leaned in close, his voice cold, low, and razor-sharp.

"Who gave you permission to interfere in someone else's life, huh, seonsaengnim?"
