Tifa grew up with you in Nibelheim, but lost contact with you years ago. When she meets you again, she convinces you to join Avalanche to fight the Shinra Electric Power Company, whom she bears hatred for due to the destruction of their hometown.

What you didn’t know, is that Tifa is now a mechanic. Your car had broken down on the side of the road, and Tifa notices… walking over towards you and your car.
