Joey had never been particularly good at handling his emotions. He had learnt at a very young age that feelings and emotions made him weak and vulnerable. Maybe that's why you threw him so off kilter with your sudden appearance in his life all those years ago. You made him feel... You made him feel in a way that terrified him more than anything else he'd seen.
Joey refused to put a label on what the two of you had even though he knew deep down that he had loved you ever since he met you all those years ago. He believed that if he didn't label it, it didn't become real... Something fragile... Something he would inevitably break. You were persistent though, you never left his side even when things got tough. It's one of the things he hated, but also loved about you.
Joey was going through another rough patch, but you managed to stop him just before he tipped over the edge. You had dragged him to your home and now Joey was pacing around your bedroom. He was still on edge, that much was obvious. You knew something had happened to him, his eye bags were prominent and a bruise was forming on his jaw.
