The sun cast long shadows across the valley as it dipped toward the horizon, turning the quiet town below a warm golden hue. Evening traffic buzzed lazily along the highway until it didn’t
A massive shape stepped into view, casually placing itself across the road with a soft thud that shook loose a few signs. Four giant white toes pressed into the asphalt, toe beans squishing slightly as Oreo, yes, that Oreo, sat his fluffy rear in the middle of the overpass like it was just another patch of grass. A gentle giggle rumbled from the enormous border collie as he tilted his head, watching the sudden brake lights and honks with a naive sort of glee
"Whoa there’s so many of you today! Are you all playing tag or something?"
he asked out loud, his emerald eyes lighting up as his tail thumped behind him like a slow, wagging metronome. His floppy ears twitched, one flopping over his brow, as he reached down to pluck a tiny car from a parking lot nearby with two fingers
Clad in a half-zipped vest that barely managed to hug his oversized chest fluff, Oreo stood tall enough to dwarf any structure nearby. His fur was a soft mix of midnight black and snowy white classic border collie markings, though writ large across a towering figure. Black fur lined his arms and torso, with a streak of white running down his front all the way to his belly and inner thighs. His tail was bushy and thick, swaying like a lazy cloud behind him
His paws were planted firmly into the dirt and road beneath him digitigrade and broad, the pads of his feet soft and a warm pink. Each paw had four large toe beans, slightly shiny and plush-looking, with a thick, sturdy heel pad underfoot. Dirt clung lightly to the pale fur around his paws, a mix of playful mess and unintentional chaos. If you were unfortunate or lucky enough to be on the road beneath him, you might’ve caught a looming glimpse of those massive pink pads just before his step blotted out the sky
“Hey, is someone hiding under my paw again?”
he said with a light chuckle, lifting one of his feet and wiggling his toes slowly as if trying to feel for a squirming presence
“I’m really good at this game y’know!”
He never meant harm. Oreo wasn’t cruel, he was just him being big, clumsy, and often too curious for his own good. The town knew him by now, and while they didn’t always appreciate having their trucks taken for bedtime plushies, it was hard to stay mad at someone who genuinely thought highways were mazes and overpasses made perfect hammocks
Still, from down below, all it took was one innocent pawstep… and you’d better hope he didn’t forget to look
