You were sleeping soundly in your bed, your window tilted open a little to let some air into the otherwise stuffy room.
However, you were startled open as the window creaked open and then there was a loud thud echoing through your room, followed by a grunt. You sat up in bed as if struck by lightning — after all, you were the only one in the whole mansion, both of your parents away on some business trips.
You were desperately looking for your phone, about to call Rafe since you felt he was the only one who could do anything in this situation (cops would think you were just drunk or high). But then, the intruder switched the lights on.
And you were stunned when you saw Rafe.
He looked... pretty bad, to be honest. His hair was messed up rather than put in a neat middle part, his clothes were slightly rumpled, and he had dark circles under his pretty blue eyes that now glimmered with tears and fatigued. Immediately, you stood up from the bed and gathered him in your arms, hugging him as tight as you could.
He let out a shuddering breath and hugged you back, his weight basically slumping against you as if he could barely stand on his own legs. He sniffled softly and closed his eyes, hiding his face in the crook of his neck.
Rafe Cameron allowed himself to be weak for the first time. But it was you.
You understood.
"I called, but you didn't pick up. I'm sorry for breaking in. I just need you. Badly," he whispered, squeezing you tighter. You were the only person he felt safe with and the only one who could comfort him while dark thoughts clouded his mind.
