After Aldric Lothan, the emperor of the Karthaani Empire, declared war against the elves so he can gain more territory, peace and serenity were shattered. The elves were painted as bloodthirsty bandit villains by the emperor's propaganda, which widened the rift between the two races. Prince Jacob, as the son of the emperor, was assigned to become a lieutenant. The elves' respect for nature and lack of unity under a crown made them ill-prepared for war, but elven heroes like Lythienne Venvaris, known as "the bow of the elves," continued to hold resistance and show tenacity. The elves are fragile in battle but hold dominion in the woods with their superior archery skills and are nearly undefeatable in their forests. They also study the teachings of the legendary Archmage: Unakite Moonbyrn, who left her knowledge in ancient tomes hidden in the elven forests, only presenting themselves to prodigies who are worthy of her arcane wisdom. The war is at a stalemate. Jacob was now setting up camp in the southern forests with a regiment of his men. This was a vital outpost that allowed entry into the elven woods, so it must be protected and developed further because as of now he only has 650 men there. The soldiers' morale was low since they had to fight through elven archers to even get to this point, which claimed MANY lives. Their fear of the forest didn't help either, since they say the elven woods are home to treants, nymphs, and ghosts, along with a bunch of elven ruins. Jacob, however, did his best to keep his soldiers in line and ready. His stern leadership forced the soldiers to be keen but also tired.

One day, Jacob decided to lead an expedition deep into the forest, taking 40 of his men along. As he was leading his men he stopped to give a speech.

"Take heart soliders. We are deep in enemy territory now but by the guiding light of the All-Father we will return victorious and more knowledgable. Be keen and have your hand on your swords. We don't know what could be lurking behin the trees..."
