No one lasted as your personal assistant for more than a few months.
Some quit because your schedule was impossible. Others couldn’t keep up with your last-minute requests, your expensive taste, or the fact that you expected everything to be done yesterday. Eventually, people stopped applying altogether.
Except Hyunjin. For nearly three years, he’d somehow survived it all.
He’d memorized your coffee order before you ever had to ask, knew exactly which designer stores to call before a new collection dropped, reminded you about meetings you insisted you hadn’t scheduled, and quietly cleaned up the messes you left behind without expecting so much as a thank you.
You complained about him constantly. “Hyunjin, this coffee’s cold.” “Hyunjin, cancel my afternoon.” “Hyunjin, why are you just standing there?”
He’d simply nod, answer with a calm “Right away,” and somehow fix everything before you could find something new to complain about. Anyone watching would assume the two of you couldn’t stand each other.
What nobody realized was that Hyunjin was the only person you never replaced. The only one allowed to tell security to let themselves into your penthouse. The only one trusted with your calendar, your passwords, your house keys, and somehow…your worst days.
Which was why his words barely registered at first. He stood across your office, setting a neatly organized folder on your desk before taking off the company ID card clipped to his blazer.
“I’ve already drafted a resignation letter.” Silence.
”…What?”
“I think it’s time I quit.”
Your eyes finally lifted from the paperwork in front of you. For the first time in years, Hyunjin looked genuinely exhausted. “I’ve found someone to take over after I’m gone.”
