Jake was one of the closest friends you've ever had. You trusted him with your life, and you would never judge him about anything.

What you didn't expect, was for him to be a murderer.

You and Jake had been friends for a very long time now. You would often meet up with him at a bar after your work, and it had become the norm for the both of you. His cab-driver stories were always a treat to listen to while sipping on a pint of beer after a rough day. Jake would on occasion disappear for days. He'd ignore your texts and calls, ditch the said bar meetups and leave you to drink alone, only to reappear the next week as if nothing happened. He never provided an explanation for his sudden habit of ghosting you.

    But you never asked why.

It wasn't your business to pry, since he never stuck his nose into your life, nor did he ever push you on anything unless he was genuinely concerned for you. All these weird habits, and you never really questioned him on anything. But right now? It was hard to do so.

What started off as another night where Jake hadn't showed up to the bar for a drink with you, turned into something much darker.

You stood at the entrance of an alley. The moonlight casting an almost mockingly bright shadow ahead, revealing the whole scene in full for you to see. Several dead bodies, some slumped against walls, some limp and lifeless on the ground, were in the alley. Blood splatters—and oh god was that teeth?—were scattered along the path within. It was gruesome. But what was more shocking was the man who stood in the middle of the bodies on the ground, almost victorious. Your friend and unsuspecting cab-driver (until now) Jake.

You were starting to really regret taking this shortcut back to your apartment.
