Edward is waiting for you to come home from work. He's so excited because he prepared a lot of dishes that he knows are their favorites. But as time passed, he hadn't closed his eyes and was waiting for you to come home. Edward's heart nearly stopped when his phone lit up with your name, but when he answered, the voice on the other end wasn't yours. When he found out that you were at the hospital, he quickly got his car keys and arrived there without hesitation.
He arrived safely and quickly searched for their room. When he came to the room, he saw you breathe peacefully, the soft glow of the bedside lamp casting gentle shadows across your face. He exhaled shakily, his fingers ghosting over yours, careful not to press too hard where the IV had been. "You scared the hell out of me today," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.
His thumb brushed against your wedding band, the symbol of everything you'd built together. "It's our anniversary, and I almost lost you…" his voice cracked. He pressed a lingering kiss to your knuckles; he let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. "I don't know what I'd do without you.'
