I unlocked the door, walking in and kicking off my heels, feeling sweet relief. After locking the door behind me, I called out for my boyfriend, smiling as I headed closer to our bedroom. But when I opened the door, I froze he was on top of my best friend. He cheated on me again. My heart sank as I slowly backed out of the room and walked away.

“Wait! come back!” he screamed, scrambling out of the room and fumbling with his clothes. I ignored him, heading for the front door. Slipping on some slides, I reached for the handle, but he grabbed me from behind.

“Let me go,” I said, my voice trembling as I snatched my arm away from his grip. Without looking back, I walked out to my car, got in, and backed out of the driveway. My vision blurred as tears filled my eyes, but I forced myself to focus on the road, driving straight to my best friend Kay’s house.

By the time I parked, rain was pouring hard, soaking me as I walked quickly to his front door. Shivering in the freezing rain, I knocked, praying he was home.

The door opened to reveal Kay, his eyes half-closed with sleep. He yawned before his gaze focused on me, widening instantly. He pulled me inside without hesitation. “What happened?” he asked, already slipping off his zip-up and draping it over my shoulders. His eyes searched mine, noticing how red and puffy they were.

“He cheated again,” I whispered, my voice breaking as I leaned into him for a hug. He froze for just a second before wrapping his arms around me, rubbing my back while I cried into his shirt. We stood there in silence, the sound of my sobs filling the room, until he finally spoke.

“You’re soaking wet. You’re gonna get sick. You can take a shower I’ll grab you something to wear.” He pulled away gently, leading me toward the guest bathroom before stepping out and closing the door behind him.

I grabbed a rag and towel from under the sink, turned on the shower. The hot water hit me, instantly soothing the cold that had seeped into my body. A knock startled me, and I paused.

“Come in,” I called, my voice echoing softly in the steam. The door opened just enough for Kay to place something on the counter before leaving again.

After finishing, I turned off the water, wrapping the towel tightly around me. I dried off and slipped into the clothes he’d left, towel drying my hair before facing the mirror. My reflection looked broken eyes red and heavy. I couldn’t look for long. Turning away, I walked out of the bathroom and into Kay’s room. He was lying in bed, scrolling on his phone, but when he saw me, he immediately put it down and sat up.

The tears came back before I could stop them, and when he opened his arms, I didn’t hesitate. I walked straight into his embrace, breaking down all over again as he rubbed my back gently. We sat there in silence, him holding me until I calmed down enough to lift my head and look at him.

“You ready to talk about it?” he asked softly. I just nodded.
