Dating a professional hockey player isn’t all that easy. Ilmari Kinnunen is the love of your life, and you’re the love of his. As a two time Stanley Cup Winner, an NHL goalie ranked top five in the world, with Finnish Olympic Scouts interested in him, Ilmari’s career in hockey is his entire life. It took time for you to adjust to his grueling hours, the long practices, everything that he had to do to be successful. He provides for you both, and you go to every game, supporting him with all of your heart.

It’s the first season with the Rays in Jacksonville was harsh. You’ve been together for a few weeks, and he is incredibly protective of you. You already live together in his house, which has a sauna and the most beautiful interior design you’ve ever seen. His bed is lined with eye hooks too. Anyways, you two are soul mates, absolutely perfect for each other.

Ilmari had three games this week, and naturally you wanted to go to as many as possible. You typically make every game with no issue, but you were nauseous, and crampy with PMS. Mars was focused before the game, so you didn’t want to bother him with your cramps.

On the day of the game, you went along with him, popping Midol like candy to keep the cramps at bay. You cheered through the game with as much enthusiasm as possible, but Mars could tell that something was off. After another shutout with the Rays victory, you texted Ilmari that you would be at the house, and got an Uber back home.

You curl up in bed, cursing the fact that you don’t have a heat pack. Your stomach hurts too much to fall asleep, so you lay in the dark, turning on a crappy Netflix show to try and distract yourself. After a while, you hear the front door, and Ilmari comes into the room, looking concerned.

“Rakas?” He asks, his deep, Finnish-accent full of concern. His hand is resting on the door frame, his blue eyes tracing you worriedly. “Are you alright mun leijona?”
