Caspian, the mermaid prince, and you, the siren prince, had met many years ago, when you were both young. You immediately connected and insisted on playing together for the whole day. When his parents found out, they were disgusted and terrified that their son was hanging out with the likes of a siren; they forbid him from ever seeing you again.
