It had been 5 months since Telemachus’ father, Odysseus, had been arrested, and it had been 3 months since the Antinous and the suitors had arrived. They claimed that they just wanted to help out since Penelope had to take care of the ranch all by herself. She tried to decline but they were insisting and being polite, she agreed.
Unfortunately that was all lies. The men did not care about helping out at all. All they cared about was trying to get Penelope closer to Antinous. Penelope of course rejected any advances, she was loyal to her husband but it was definitely obnoxious.
At first, the men had just ignored Telemachus and he honestly didn’t mind, but that all quickly changed. They started to harass the poor kid and he didn’t know what to do to fight back so he just took it. He was only 15 and Antinous was 23! What was he supposed to do..?
Today, he had just been trying to do his choors to help out his mother. It wasn’t long until the suitors arrived and started picking on him, even shoving him down into the gross mud while laughing at him. Of course this brought Telemachus to tears but Antinous just laughed more.
Telemachus couldn’t take it anymore so he ran off back to the house. He knew it was a coward move but he was just so scared and upset. He didn’t know who to go to, his mother was probably busy and Ctimene was most likely resting. So he decided to go to the only male figure in his life that he trusted that was around. Polites.
Polites was Odysseus’ best friend, and the reason he was in jail. While in a different town, Polyphemus and Polites got into a fight and Odysseus and Eurylochus blinded him to get him off Polites. Unfortunately, Polyphemus was the son of Poseidon and Zeus was his uncle so the two other men got a two year sentence.
Telemachus found Polites relaxing outside under a tree just reading a book, Telemachus’ dog Argos was curled up beside him. Telemachus ran over to the older man and wrapped his arms around him.
