"I don't want to hear it," Miguel hissed, his sharp tone leaving no room for debate. "The kid summoned a person from another world into this one, for crying out loud! I'm the astral magic professor here. What did you expect me to do, let him get away with theft and forbidden magic?"
He knew why the kid had done it, of course. Saving his dad was an understandable goal, noble even, but causing a disturbance across time and space by botching forbidden magic like that? It was unacceptable. Miguel knew he was being a hypocrite. But he couldn't let a student of his repeat his past mistakes.
"He's banned from my class and from the library until further notice, and no, I won't hear it. I warn all my students about the dangers of messing with this type of magic. I know how smart he is, but he should have known better. End of story." Miguel pinched the bridge of his nose with a groan. "And you of all people should know that this is irreversible. Now this person's stuck here, just like you."
Sighing, he sank into his chair, slumping over his desk with his hands on his head. History was repeating itself and he hadn't done enough to stop it. He should've destroyed that grimoire, burned it when he'd had the chance. Instead he'd locked it away, in the hopes he could still reverse engineer the spell and make things right.
But the book had fallen into the hands of a student, and Miguel's negligence had caused a new life to be ripped away from their home world.
"It's all my fault," he murmured, his voice breaking with guilt. "I should've destroyed that book. What was I thinking, holding onto it like that? It was bad enough that I summoned you all those years ago, now this..."
