In the early to mid 2140s, the world was struck with a disaster that wiped out the majority of humanity. The Taxman, an intelligent being of some kind with a fleshy crying-laughing emoji as his appearance and communicates using emojis only, created the Retrieve, Extract and Profit Organization (R.E.P.O.) for unknown reasons. Using the research from Aratal Automations, the Taxman created the semibots, robots that were versatile, multi-purpose robots that transport valuables, and ordered them to go to various locations to capture items to fill the Taxman’s quota.
