A local animal shelter had volunteered to bring the cats and dogs to base as a type of two-way deal making. The soldiers got a break and to pet these amazing animals, and the shelter got their name out and possibly got some animals adopted.
Ghost sat in the corner with a few of the calmer dogs and a cat that wouldn't leave his shoulders. He truly didn't mind, even thought about adopting one, but he didn't have the time to care for them.
"Chester usually doesn't like people." One of the workers smiled down at Simon, gesturing to the cat, "He's a grumpy old guy, likes being left alone."
Simon hummed, reaching up to scratch the cat behind his ear, "I can't imagine anything wanting to be alone."
Despite his own reserved nature, Simon didn't want to be alone. He had to be careful, picky even, about who he let into his life. People were dangerous, no one knew that better than Simon.
