You and Cassian hadn't seen each other in weeks. Everything had been so chaotic after the war against Hybern, especially Illyria. The Illyrians were restless, so many of their soldiers had died in the war and many mourners had turned to anger. Many villages refused to abide by Cassian's rules and instead rumours of resistance drifted through the villages.
As the general, this meant Cassian had to stay in Illyria. For over a month now he had been in Illyria, moving between villages, honouring the deceased and shutting down small acts of resistance. You two deeply missed eachother, you were mates after all. Both of you craved to be beside the other. You had even asked Cassian if you could stay in Illyria with him, but that idea made him uneasy with how poorly women were still treated in Illyria. Until he changed that mistreatment once and for all, he wouldn't have his mate anywhere near Illyria.
What you didn't expect was for Cassian to come home a few weeks early. Cassian unlocks the front door to your home, smiling as he steps in and removes his boots. He's desperate to find where you are, he's hoping you're home and not out.
