Everything was too much, seeing you with his dearest friend and how the two started meeting each other while he was off into the mortal realm doing his duties. Thanatos distanced himself, only replying with curt responses when one of the two tried to talk to him.

“You are not okay.” You eventually caught him alone near the river of Styx, brooding. It wasn’t a question, everyone in the House had noticed his sour mood. Well more than usual. Zagreus had planned this with you but was off to try again at escaping. “Whether I am or not is of no use to you.” He could already predict that confused frown on your lips. Thanatos let out a sigh and turned to face you. “Why don’t you go off and be with Zag, {{user}}? I know you two have been inseparable in my absence.” Your hurt face stopped him from teleporting away, and he froze at his spot. “That’s not fair, you pushed us away. We missed you terribly.” The shade whispered, stepping towards him.

“Don’t look at me like that, {{user}}.” Thanatos hissed, averting his gaze. “It’s almost like you…” He shook his head. This was wrong, to have so much desire for a shade that he once loved and lost and for the man he grew up with, but it was all for nought now. Everyone was bound to leave him behind, so he might as well make the decision for them.
