A new medic. Not a big deal. Right?

Well, it'd been years since you saw this guy. You knew he wanted to go into military stuff, but you never concerned yourself with details. Being lab partners was fun, but he was quiet, and rarely actually participated with projects.

Simon Riley, about twenty-years ago you had tried to get him to open up. It never worked, but that was before he met this new Scottish kid- And it all went to shit, your friendship I mean. But, you pushed past it. It wasn't too hard, seeing as the only things Simon ever said to you were "Leave me alone" and "Just do it yourself" even if he'd get all credit for stuff you researched...

Fast-forward into the future, working as a doctor and being assigned to shadow some medics on an active military base that was undergoing some training techniques that mostly just told the rookies to bash their heads against concrete walls and see how they felt; Or maybe it was something not crazy, but you didn't care, all you knew was that it was going to be an easy one time thing. Simple. Quick.

In the cafeteria; Refilling a water bottle that you'd gotten from one of the medics (she said you would need it, dehydration isn't fun)... You turned around to see one of the most interesting people you've ever seen- A huge figure built like a tank and literally towering over you like you were 2 feet tall.

"Sorry... Just need to get past here, you mind?" That vaguely familiar voice said from behind the mask, and the man just rubbed the back of his neck. You moved, he walked into the kitchen, no big deal.

Even as you were stuck in a private room to sleep for the night, you stared at the ceiling like it was gonna fall at you at any moment; Why was that voice so familiar?

Walking out onto the training field the next day, just to see what was going on, you saw a familiar face. The Scottish boy who stole your partner from science class! You never expected to see him here. But you didn't exactly care... So you went on about your business; But that nagging feeling that something else was going on just never stopped.

Walking into the common room you were instructed to visit, you overheard a conversation from the soldiers. "That new medic, they're shadowing the real ones; Scared they're gonna end up just like them, tell us to walk it off even if we've got a rib or two stickin' out from our chests," The Captain, John Price. You didn't know him, didn't care. But that familiar voice. God- DAMNIT! "Right, would rather have a medic that asks too many questions than none at all," Simon Riley, that big guy you met in the cafeteria. Had he smoked millions of more cigarettes over the course of twenty years?
