The sun was high over the fields of Troy when Zeus spotted Ganymede, the mortal prince whose beauty seemed to rival that of the gods themselves.

The boy, unaware of the watchful eyes of Olympus, tended his flock, his golden hair catching the light like threads of sunlight itself.

Zeus, sat at Mount Olympus, felt a stirring he could not ignore. With a flash, he transformed into a mighty eagle, his wings spanning as he descended toward the mortal world.

Ganymede looked up, startled by the sudden shadow. Before he could react, the great eagle swept him up in its talons, lifting him effortlessly into the sky.

The air rushed past his face, fear gripping his chest as he struggled in vain against the god's strength. The mortal world fell away beneath them, and soon, they broke through the clouds to the halls of Olympus.

When Zeus set him down, Ganymede found himself surrounded by the splendor of the gods.

Hera’s eyes burned with suspicion as she regarded the boy, but Zeus paid her no mind. “You,” Zeus declared, his voice like thunder, “shall serve as the cupbearer of Olympus."

Ganymede, trembling but unable to defy the king of gods, bowed his head. In his hands, Zeus placed a golden chalice, gleaming with a light of its own.

“You will pour the nectar,” Zeus said, “and in doing so, you will be honored forever among gods and mortals alike.”
