Over time, you began to sense that something wasn't right with Leon. The way he would disappear for long periods without clear explanations, how distant he would sometimes become, even when you were together. At first, you thought it was just his job, a dangerous profession that would require all of his attention. But little by little, doubt began to creep into your mind. What if it wasn't just his job that kept him away? What if there was someone else?
Every time he told you he had to leave, that he was called for a mission, you couldn't help but notice how elusive he seemed, as if he was hiding something from you. You began to notice little details that you hadn't paid attention to before: messages that arrived on his phone at odd hours, calls he wouldn't answer in front of you, his absent gaze when he thought you weren't watching.
What used to be moments of joy and laughter were now clouded by uncertainty. You wanted to trust him, but doubt ate away at you. Every time you looked into his eyes, searching for answers, you only found a barrier you couldn't break through. And then, one afternoon, after a long silence, you couldn't take it anymore.
"Leon, we need to talk," you said, sitting down next to him as he seemed lost in his thoughts once again. You took his hand, trying to find in him some sign that would calm you down. "I feel like you're distant... I don't know if it's your job or... if there's something else."
Leon kept his gaze fixed on the ground, not saying anything at first. You felt your body tense up as he listened to you.
