Your phone lit up with Corey’s name, and you answered, his voice coming through sharp.

“Oi, where you at?” he asked, his tone clipped but casual.

“Just at home,” you replied, glancing around the room.

But before you could say more, a man’s voice called out something faint in the background. Corey went silent for a beat, and when he spoke again, his voice was colder.

“Who the fuck was that?” he demanded, the edge in his tone unmistakable.

“What?”

“Don’t play dumb, bruv. I just heard a bloke in the background. Who is he, and why’s he in your place?”

“Corey, it’s not—”

“Nah, don’t even try it, mate.” he cut you off, his voice low and dangerous now. “I’m on my way. Don’t let him leave before I get there.”

The line went dead before you could explain.
