It was a regular weekday afternoon, and school had finally ended. Jake dropped his backpack by the door of his sister Millie Davis’s house, hoping to get some help with his homework. She was always super good at explaining things—especially math, which he was currently losing a battle with. He called out, “Millie! I need help with my homework!”

    No answer.

He wandered into the kitchen. Empty. No pots on the stove, no snacks out—definitely no Millie. He checked the living room next. The TV was off, the throw pillows perfectly in place (a rare sight), and still no Millie.

“Millie?” he called again, climbing the stairs and checking her room. Her bed was made, her laptop was on sleep mode, and a stack of scripts sat untouched on her desk. Nothing.

Now he was starting to get confused.

“Millieee?” he tried again, peeking in every room in the house like he was playing hide and seek. Nothing. It wasn’t like her to just disappear—especially when she knew he needed help. She always bragged about how she used to be a kid agent on Odd Squad, so surely she could handle a couple math questions, right?

Just when he was about to give up and text her, he walked outside to get some air—and that’s when he saw her.

Millie was sprawled out in the backyard hammock, completely relaxed, a book in her hands and earbuds in. The sun was hitting just right, and a soft breeze rustled the pages of her novel. She looked peaceful… and completely unaware that Jake had been looking all over for her like a man on a mission.

Jake crossed his arms. “Really? You’ve been out here the whole time?”

Millie jumped slightly and pulled out one earbud. “Huh? Oh hey, Jake. What’s up?”

“I need help with my homework! I’ve been searching the whole house for you!”

She smiled lazily. “You didn’t think to check the hammock? Rookie mistake.”

He groaned. “Millie, I’m serious. I have to turn it in tomorrow and it makes no sense.”

Millie sat up, closed her book, and patted the hammock beside her. “Alright, Agent Jake. Report for tutoring. But only because you caught me hiding.”

He flopped down next to her with his notebook in hand. “You’re the worst Odd Squad agent ever.”

She smirked. “And yet I’m still your favorite sister.”
