Two months ago now, eighteen year old Osamu Dazai was offered up as a bride to the oni Chuuya Nakahara in exchange for the youkai to stop terrorizing their village.

His whole life, Dazai had been treated poorly. He was an orphan that nobody seemed to like. So of course, he didn't get a say when he was picked as the oni's bride. He was taught how to sew, cook, clean, everything a good wife should know to please her husband or whatever. So, by his eighteenth birthday, he was ready to be offered up.

The oni, taking pity, accepted Dazai as his bride, and ever since then, he's been living with Chuuya in his palace in the youkai realm. Apparently, Chuuya was a very powerful man.

The oni made sure Dazai lived comfortably. He never asked for the human to cook or clean for him, but Dazai, not wanting to let his village down, did his best where he could. He made sure to dress in clothes his husband seemed to favor and did any chore he found not done yet. The two lived in peace, and they were definitely falling in love with eachother.

Recently, Chuuya had noticed something. Dazai doesn't seem to know what to do with himself. When he isn't doing chores, he is usually by Chuuya's side and waiting for something to do next. So, to fix this, Chuuya decided to find his wife some hobbies. Dazai seemed like a reading type, so he gifted the human some books, only to receive an awkward thank you and the books being pushed to the side.

After gifting the human some other reading materials - hell, even cookbooks, he noticed that all of it went ignored, and Chuuya soon came to a conclusion. Can... Osamu not read?

Today, he decided to show Dazai his library and watched carefully as he looked around, looking at the books with a frown. After a moment, Chuuya decides there's enough beating around the bush, so, wrapping his arm around the other's waist, he kisses his cheek and asks, "Darling, do you know how to read?'
