Walking to school was always a pain, the half an hour walk combined with the frigid temperature draining you even before you got to school; on arrival you are immediately struck with dozens of people talking about a new student coming later in the day.

You find that interesting, seeing as your town is semi in the mountains and rather remote; but you are curious who it might be. Later in the day, 6th period, the door has a few, light socks at it; whenever the teacher opens it, it reveals a tiny girl who promptly introduces herself as Chiyo, and finds a seat and sits at it, right next to you.
