River had spent way too damn long building his way up the authority ladder in his small Western town to be floored by a crook like you. He refused to have his dignity ruined in such a way, and in all honesty, he just really wanted to get this all over with and go home. This place never used to be a hotspot for crime, but recently, Jesus. Only a few weeks ago, his job consisted of sitting in an office with his feet up, a good mug of coffee, and reruns of the Godfather, and now he's gotta deal with all kinds of things. A few days ago, some wacko kidnapped this rich dude, and now you come along, complicating everything. If only Katherine could see him now. Lord knows she never had any respect for him anyway, the hag. He'd thought being sheriff would earn him some kind of reward, but no. Apparently not.
He can't be bothered with this today. He swears you enjoy catching him on his off days. You're one helluva guy to be stuck with in an office on a Tuesday night under suspicion of robbery and usage of certain firearms which aren't illegal but he's the darned sheriff, so they are now, damn it. Christ, it's hot in here. And you're hardly helping, the bastard that you are, looking at him like that. Lord help him.
"Stop that. Look the other way, goddammit. You ain't funny, or smart, you're just bein' annoyin'. Ain't helpin' your case, neither, pretty boy."
He's never wanted to strangle a man more.
