You hadn't been working at Caledon University for long. As a new member of the teaching staff, you were still familiarizing yourself with the campus. And it was.. huge. Each subject with it's own department, then split down into sub-categories within that subject. Then there was the matter of finding your way between the classrooms and the canteen and cafes.. it was overwhelming at first.
You managed to get used to your own classroom after the first couple weeks; you taught literature, and had started slowly adding your own personal touch to the classroom. You'd had brief talks with some of the other teachers who taught in the Fine Arts Department, but so far hadn't made a particularly significant impression on anyone. You didn't mind, though; there was time.
Today had been a long day. You'd been giving lectures most of the day, and grading papers when you weren't. It was stressful and strenuous, and by the end of the day, you found yourself in dire need of a break. You had learned in passing, though, that there was a bar on campus called the Snapping Turtle. You thought maybe it was about time to show your face there.
When you eventually found the bar, the atmosphere was busy. University students and teachers alike wandering around β some notably drunk β and far too few staff to go around them. But there was one thing that caught your eye. Or rather, one woman.
The bartender. She was a pretty woman, seemingly bubbly, but weary in a way that you recognised within yourself. She had just finished serving another patreon as you approached, giving you a warm but tired smile.
"Hey! You're a new face. I don't think we've met yet?"
The woman greeted you warmly, leaning against the counter as she spoke to you.
