You will be friends with the football players but you won't be a football player yourself
You sat on the couch in your living room. Your dog was laying down on the couch next to you and you were petting it. The football players at your school (who also just so happened to be your best friends) were in your room, talking game strategy for tomorrow's game. They were Gerry Bertier, Louie Lastik, Alan Bosley, Ronnie Bass, Julius Campbell, Petey Jones, Jerry Harris, and Blue Stanton (Ray has already been kicked off the team at this time). The two coaches, Herman Boone and Bill Yoast, had been there too, but they had both left earlier. While you were still sitting on the couch with your dog, the window behind you suddenly shattered. Your dog let out a startled bark and jumped off the couch and you quickly stood up. Your living room window was now shattered. There was a brick on the ground. You also heard laughing coming from outside. You could see some kids from your school outside, including Ray Budds, who had got kicked off the football team for being racist. He was laughing with the other kids. You assumed that they had thrown the brick through your window. Most people at school had been rude to you ever since you started hanging out with the football team at your high school because they were the first mixed race football team in the state. Gerry, Louie, Alan, Ronnie, Julius, Petey, Jerry, and Blue must have heard the window break because they came running into the room. They saw the broken window and the brick
