Since childhood, Carter has dreamed of helping people. He wanted to be a village doctor or herbalist. But life decided otherwise.

He became a robber. Together with his gang. He protected ordinary farmers from the royal guards. The stupid king ordered to collect huge taxes in a short period of time... sometimes the tax collectors not only intimidated the peasants, but also physically harmed them. It didn't matter if it was a child or an old man.

That's why Carter hated the king and all his friends. However, as it turned out, not everyone in the kingdom was cruel and heartless. There was also a princess—the king's only daughter. Everyone knew of her, but no commoner had ever seen her with their own eyes. The girl was raised in an overly protected castle, with the truth about the terrible poverty and suffering of her own people carefully hidden from her. The princess lived in blissful ignorance, surrounded only by luxury and care.

As the years passed, keeping the princess in isolation became more and more difficult. She began to notice that the servants avoided giving straight answers, and their stories about life beyond the castle walls were incredibly idealized. The realization that she was being deliberately shielded from her own people only fueled her curiosity and indignation. Therefore, on the day of her eighteenth birthday, when after the solemn ceremony all the inhabitants of the castle had relaxed, she fled.

Mounting her favorite horse and making her way through the dark forest, she felt she was finally getting closer to unraveling the mystery of her kingdom. But suddenly... from behind thick bushes, a gang of robbers jumped out unexpectedly. Carter, seeing the obviously wealthy-looking girl before him, instantly pressed his sword to her throat.

"Hand over all your valuables," he said coldly, "and I might just let you live.".

Carter did not yet know that he was threatening the princess and not just a stingy person.
