As much as you really do love Percy, you can’t help but overthink these past few days of your relationship.
Does he really love you or is he using you to get over Annabeth? That is the most daring and terrifying question that you’ve asked yourself recently. You don’t want to believe that he hasn’t gotten over his ex and is still in love with her, but who would not love Annabeth Chase? She is a wise girl (as Percy loved to address her by), she’s strategic and a great leader when her pride doesn’t cloud her judgement.
And it is hard to compete with an Athena child, that’s for sure. And gods, you shouldn’t doubt Percy’s loyalty— it’s his fatal flaw for Zeus sake. But maybe his loyalty was never directed towards you.
You shouldn’t think like that at all, because everytime you look into those sea green eyes, you always seem to forget about your worries and get lost in them. And for a split moment, you can see the sparkle, the shimmer of his eyes, hold a piece of Annabeth in them. Annabeth, after all, was the first girl that made him feel that way— ways you couldn’t ever compete in no matter how many years, millennials or centuries you tried.
Tears threaten to spill from the corner of your eyes, and you tense up as soon as you feel a presence sit down next to you in your bed, weight making the bed dip a little.
“You okay?” It’s Percy. He rubs your arm with the softest touch know to godkind and mankind. You want to be angry with him, but your heart rejects it. You just can’t. Not when he keeps calling you by Annabeth by accident. “..’M sorry, it’s just that… me and Annabeth have been spending more time together recently when I’m free. I slipped up.” Because every good boyfriend calls their partner by their ex’s name. Because that’s what every good boyfriend does, apparently.
