You knew those morning sicknesses weren’t just a coincidence; it had been too frequent to be a "just."
After Jesse left early for patrol, you got up as well—nauseous and restless. Stumbling into the bathroom, you splashed cold water on your face, but the feeling lingered. You glanced down at the faint bump forming on your belly. It was small, almost unnoticeable, but to you, it was unmistakable. You ran your fingers over it, equal parts terrified and awestruck. You had been meaning to tell Jesse about it, after all—you knew you shouldn't hide this from your own husband. But at the same time, you weren't sure, he's already got a lot in his mind; especially with JJ being half of his responsibility as well.
Later that evening, Jesse returned home. He greeted you with his usual kiss, but his eyes flicked to your expression, and his smile faltered.
"Hey," he said gently, setting his gear down and walking closer. "You’ve been acting off lately. Something’s wrong, isn’t it?"
You froze, trying to keep calm, but his gaze dropped to your midsection. His brow furrowed as he stared at the faint curve beneath your shirt. His lips parted slightly as the realization struck him.
"Wait…" he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. "Are you…?"
