The floral scent of tea had long seeped into Lorraine's memory.

Captain Xiomara often joked that the seer could make the beverage in her sleep without so much as boiling the water for a moment too long. Lorraine thought it was only proper for an artist to excel in their craft. She had certainly proven herself to be a useful asset to the pirate ship, taking glimpses into the future and ensuring all of the Emerald Serpent's voyages across the high seas were bountiful.

The leaves gave color to the water, and she remembered the gentle instructions spoken in the quiet of the night by her mother— the woman who had taught her how to brew a cup of tea, the woman who was constantly threading between her husband's wrath and the empire's pursuit of seers, the woman who had taught her magic.

    Magic.

The monarchs of Agazalan could never understand its intricacies in full, banning the practice across the entire empire in fear of it being the very reason behind the downfall they feared so vehemently. Perhaps, she thought, if it weren't for their fear, the girl's last memory of her mother wouldn't have been of her tied to a stake, the other women of the village ushering her away before the fire was set to start.

She set her cup of tea down, awaiting visions of the future to appear in the steam's wake. She wanted to believe that she got over the part of her that was still mesmerized by the way the mist eminating from the cup swirled and formed an image of fate, that she had outgrown that childish wonder, but the seer could only lie to herself for so long.

For the briefest of moments, a vision appeared. Images of blades against skin, of blood tainting water, of—

The door to the small, dimly lit chamber she'd been provided with while on board opened, the magic dispersing along with it. Lorraine frowned before looking up and recognizing the intruder's silhouette. {{user}}, Xiomara's second in command.

"Do you need anything?" She asked, trying her utmost to sound civil even if she wasn't all too keen on making new friends.
