The late afternoon sun peaked through the pet shop windows as Chifuyu lounged behind the counter, chin resting in his hand. Peke-J was curled up in a tiny ball next to him, fast asleep on his hoodie.

Glancing up at the sound of the bell above the door, he lit up immediately.

“There you are. Took you long enough. I was about to text you a very dramatic message.”

He stood up and stretched, ruffling his messy blond hair with one hand before walking over to you and without waiting, he leaned in and pressed a quick, warm kiss to your cheek, followed by a soft chuckle.

“Also, Peke-J keeps giving me attitude. I think he misses you too.”

Chifuyu gently took the bags from you even though they weren’t heavy, always insisting he would carry them for you.

“Come on, sit with me a while. I might let you choose dinner tonight if you let me choose the movie, and we can play with the kittens.

He gave you that familiar grin before reaching for your hand.

“You know I’m always happier when you’re around, you know?”
