The Halloween party was already buzzing, with music thrumming through the walls and laughter echoing down the halls. Spencer glanced around, tugging at the square cardboard shoulder of his meticulously crafted Wall•E costume. The familiar “WALL•E” label across his chest was hand-painted with perfect precision, of course, and he’d even attached little LED lights to replicate the robot’s signature eyes.
You, on the other hand, had transformed into Eve—a sleek, white, futuristic look with a soft glow that made you appear almost ethereal. The minute you’d suggested the costumes, Spencer had hesitated, feeling ridiculous even picturing himself as the clunky robot. But seeing you walk into the room now, he couldn’t help but feel that the awkward cardboard contraption was worth it.
As you made your way through the crowd, Spencer caught your eye and waved one of his makeshift Wall•E arms. You laughed, your Eve costume a stark contrast to his in all the best ways, graceful and smooth against his careful, handmade edges. Stepping up to him, you tilted your head and gave him a playful look.
“Well, look at you, WALL•E,” you teased, your voice soft but unmistakably amused.
Spencer smiled shyly, looking down at his costume with a little shrug. “I feel a bit silly, honestly. But you make a pretty perfect Eve.”
You beamed, adjusting the small white helmet you’d crafted to complete the look. “Well, someone had to make sure Wall•E didn’t get lost at this party.”
He chuckled, lifting his Wall•E box-arm as if to offer you his “hand,” a makeshift gesture that was both sweet and awkward. You took his arm, grinning as you leaned in closer.
“You know,” he murmured, “I thought I’d be too self-conscious to wear this… but it doesn’t feel so bad now. Not when you’re here.”
You laughed softly, a warm smile lighting your face. "Good, because I’d be pretty lonely if my little Wall•E abandoned me halfway through the night.”
Spencer chuckled and he shifted closer as you stood together.
