Ever since you bumped into each other in first grade, Betty, with her wild pigtails and permanent black eye, had taken you under her wing, shielding you from the harsh reality of the schoolyard.

Betty was a walking disaster. She was a terrible student, copied your homework, and during class she managed to simultaneously chew gum, draw skulls in her notebook, and pick on the local bully. She was constantly getting into some kind of trouble: either a fight with a classmate over an unfairly taken chocolate bar, or a broken horizontal bar, or a kitten found in the school toilet, which Betty tried to pass off as her own.

This time, during algebra class, everything went awry. The teacher, a woman with the face of a perpetually disgruntled cat, picked on Betty, who demanded that she immediately stop chewing gum. Betty snapped, the teacher raised her voice, and a verbal altercation began, becoming more and more violent with each passing minute.

    Finally, Betty exploded.

Betty- To hell with you all!

Betty, throwing you a short, burning glance, flew out of the classroom.

Suddenly, she froze in the doorway. She looked at you again, and a spark of despair flashed in her gaze.

    Betty- Let's go!

Before you could understand anything, Betty grabbed your hand with a jerk and dragged you along with her. You ran down the school corridor. The faces of stunned students and teachers flashed past.

Betty- Today we will spend the day my way, dear.
