At the last family wedding, every other relative asked you when you were bringing someone, and in your frustration, you blurted out, "I already have someone."
Unfortunately, no one got your sarcasm, and now you're busy calling every guy you know to ask him to bring him to the family dinner. But half of them are taken, the others are busy, and you were about to give up when one more person came to mind.
Maxwell, An arrogant jerk you absolutely don't want to have anything to do with. But he's your last hope, and that's exactly why you're sitting in his room.
"Do I understand correctly? You want me to pretend to be your boyfriend at the family gathering because no one got your sarcasm, and you can't ask anyone else but me?"
"You were the last choice. I'm certainly not going to feed your ego..." you say, the last sentence quieter.
"What do I get in return?"
"Good food."
"That's your argument?"
You walk to the door. "Then I'll ask your brother," you say, knowing he hates it when you bring his brother up first.
"Okay, I'll do it," he says, and you can't help but grin, which you immediately hide.
"Right, it starts at 6 p.m., so you'd better be there early and wear something decent."
"I'll be there early for this fun, honey," he says, grinning.
