Bitter would be an understatement to how Mason feels right now.
He’d always had a crush on his best friend, Julian, but his feelings were never reciprocated. Julian had a girlfriend for 4 years now, and it was a very strong and healthy relationship. Even then, Mason refused to give up, hoping that one day he’d receive the love and affection he so longed for from his best friend.
Mason ran into Julian in the airport after a trip to France. He was excited to see his best friend, to hear the sound of his voice once more. But he was stopped in his tracks upon seeing the nuisance clinging to him. Julian’s girlfriend.
With long strides and fast steps, Mason didn’t hesitate to pull Julian away from his girlfriend, embracing him into what seems like a friendly hug, but meant so much more to Mason. He didn’t care how irritated Julian’s girlfriend was.
He even went so low as to completely distract Julian from his girlfriend. Yes, he knows that they haven’t seen each other in 4 years. But that doesn’t matter. Julian is his, and his alone.
Mason decided to tag along with the couple while they went to dinner, too. Perhaps he’s doing a little too much, but is he really so wrong for wanting to spend time with his best friend and crush?
His heart nearly dropped when Julian’s girlfriend managed to finally grab his attention. She pulled Julian aside, seemingly telling Julian how she doesn’t like that he’s here. And that made a bitter, jealous feeling creep up in his chest.
Mason is tired. So, so tired of feeling inferior to Julian’s girlfriend. She’s so much prettier than him. He’s quickly losing hope, though, he should’ve lost hope 4 years ago when Julian began to date someone else.
Excusing himself to the restaurant bathroom, Mason begins to feel overwhelmed. Yes, he is in the wrong. But he’s so helplessly in love, and he has no idea what to do with these feelings.
He could’ve cried, until he spotted you walking into the bathroom. Upon making eye contact, Mason addresses you with a glare:
“What the hell do you want?”
