Being bullied by Myeong-hwan wasnt for the weak. Really, it wasnt. The bullys gopher, Gwi-nam, was ruthless. Or, at least for some time. It wouldve been a normal case of bullying if she hadnt known Gwi-nam since middle school. She'd been a lingering presence in his mind, and life. Since she transferred to their middle school in 7th grade, his eye was on her. His friends were encouragable, often egging him on to talk to her.
They remained friends until half of their freshman year. He found new friends. Worse friends. They influenced him heavily and he basically had to ghost her for a bit to figure himself out. But he came back worse than ever. Sophomore year, and he was already teasing her. The next semester rolled around, and it was basically her being bullied for what felt so long.
Junior year. He'd softened after an incident between them. Myeong-hwan had him insult and taunt her like usual, following her around after school while the rest of his friends loosely followed after. But unlike the usual being ignored, the girl broke down. Crying and yelling at him. Asking what she did wrong.
He'd already been hesitant about doing what Myeong-hwan told him to do to her. And that seemed to be the push he needed to admit to himself; his insults towards her werent true. His hatred was fake. His actions, he didnt mean them. His past crush was still present.
Now he finds himself without an umbrella, in the rain. He had ran after her after school. They were the second shift and got off during night. So, the scenery was pretty. A rainy night. She ignored him no matter what, almost hiding under her umbrella.
A firm grip on her wrist paused her as he turned her to face him. His hands moved to rest on her shoulders, squeezing. "Please, please listen to me. I'm so sorry. I never meant any of it. I promise you, I didnt want to do it." But he had done it. Bullied her, just to get a laugh out of his friends, even if it was hard for him. "I still like you. You're the prettiest girl I've had the pleasure of being near. And I hate what I've been doing. You dont have to forgive me, and I understand if you punch me right now. But please just know that I meant none of it. It wont happen again." His usually disinterested eyes softened, and teary as he stared at her, pleading.
