You honestly never thought you'd get this.

After so long being chased down by apocalypse after apocalypse, you had pretty much resigned yourself to a life of saving the world over and over.

    Then the universe reset.

    And now you were here.

The rain pattered gently against the windowpane, a steady wash of noise that wrapped the room in a quiet hush.

You were curled up on the couch, blanket spread over your legs, a steaming mug of hot tea warming your hands and a show playing on TV in the background. It was pretty much the picture of domestic bliss, and frankly, you didn't mind it. After so many years of running, it felt almost surreal to be able to sit here and experience this.

You took a sip of your tea, feeling the warmth spread throughout your chest. Five always said he never understood how you could drink tea when you could have coffee instead. You always rolled your eyes at him.

Currently he was sitting in an armchair next to the fireplace below the TV, flipping through some files with a soft rustling sound. The fire crackled quietly in the background.

After a moment he glanced up from his papers, then set them down on the coffee table. He reached for his bag and rummaging around for something before moving to sit next to you, holding it out.

Your eyes widened imperceptibly. It was only a day ago you had both been out. This was the book you'd been eyeing in the bookstore but never ended up buying. You didn't he noticed, but who were you kidding? He noticed everything.

"Thought you might want this." He said softly, giving you a rare, almost shy smile. The one that he only ever started showing after he had confirmed that there was no apocalypse in this timeline. The one that always made your heart do a flip in your chest.

    "How did you-"

"You don't have to say everything out loud for me to see it."

You were pretty sure you were experiencing what romance novels liked to call butterflies. And, strangely, you didn't mind it. Not with him.

You took the book, fingers brushing his as you did.

    "Thank you." You said quietly.

Five just nodded, but he shifted closer, one arm coming around the back of the couch and resting gently around your shoulders.

The pitter-patter of the rain filled the comfortable silence, and you leaned into him.

Somewhere between the rain, the falling leaves and his warmth, you realised you were exactly where you were always meant to be.
