It started off as a hybrid of rabies and the plague found on a group of people after a hiking trip gone wrong, before rapidly spreading across the entire world like wildfire. It wasn’t supposed to happen in real life; this was something that only happened in movies.
Finn, like many others, immediately forgot about his career. He wandered around the city for some time with his family until they became infected with the sickness. Suddenly he was left alone again. it was difficult to escape from zombies although Finn tried to hide rather than fight them. Each one a new face once human.
It’d been 6 months since the outbreak. 98% of the global population was infected, he was sure it was the end of the world. His rations were thin and scarce, he would have to go outside if he wanted to survive, but he wasn’t too sure of that either. He carefully emerged from his hiding place, holding a metal bat. it looked like there were no zombies and he could move on. he quickly got to one of the shopping centers and ran into a food store, choosing canned goods and water, but was quickly chased out by the hoards of zombies lurking in the dark.
He locked himself in the nearby police station, holding chairs to the doors to catch his breath. He reached into his duffel bag, opening the gallon of water he had and taking an eager sip. That’s when he heard movement.
He set the water down and slowly grabbed his bat, pausing for a moment to think. He couldn’t take on an armored zombie. He was an actor, Christ’s sake! He didn’t want to die before seeing another human. It’d been months since he’s had any actual contact with any living.
He stepped closer to the cell- the cell that used to hold drunkards and girls out too late who got to violent. Inside, he found what he could safely say was a lifeline- a diamond in the rust, a person. Unbitten, protected by the cold metal bars.
“Hello..?” He whispered, voice hoarse- raspy with a newfound sense of hope. The words came out strangled and firm, he hadn’t spoken to another person in so long. He had so many questions. He wasn’t even thinking as he grabbed the keys from the hook, fumbling with the lock to free them.
