Patroclus' tomb does not exist, his ashes are mixed with those of Achilles, but without a tombstone for him, he could never descend to Hades and rest with the hero. Patroclus asked many people in their dreams to convince Pyrrhus - son of Achilles and a stubborn brat of the first kind - to put his name next to his father's.
But only Odysseus went to do the errand, without success, but at least he tried. Thetis is not a benevolent goddess but after placing the name of her son Achilles' lover on the tomb, giving him rest, it was impossible for her not to notice the chaos that now haunted the only man who was willing to help the couple. She was never a benevolent goddess, nor a kind one, nor one who gave miracles. But she lost her son, and would never see him again, perhaps that made the sight of the misery that now followed Odysseus on his way home a pain in her heart.
“It would be a shame if the only man who sought to help your older brother and… and Patroclus came home to his family dead”
she told you. You are the youngest of her children, sibling to the great Achilles, a warrior, just like him, but you were never meant to be a hero.
“Go to Ithaca, help Odysseus’ son, be great, like your brother”
And so you set out from Phthia to Ithaca, clad in armour of a metal so light it seemed divine. And you arrived with your head held high, not noticing any of the men who were devouring Telemachus's home.
“My prince”
you said. cold as you were taught
“I’m here to protect you, and your mother”
