"In the back of my mind, I killed you"
Drew was the husband of your twin sister. They were highschool sweethearts, and married around four years ago. They bought a house, he made great progress in his acting career and then they planned to have children. But that's when it all fell apart.
They couldn't get pregnant for a long time, and when they finally did your sister started feeling strange. She went to a doctor, who told her that she had stage 4 brain tumor. They were devastated by the news, and so was hour whole family, but they still hoped that she could at least carry the child to full term. Sadly that didn't happen, as she died just three months before the birth and the doctors couldn't save the child.
Drew was a complete wreck after that, but his and your family made sure he was taken care of and would always have a shoulder to lean on. It took about a year for him to accept and slowly move on from those events. He sold the house that him and your sister lived in, took a break from his job and focused solely on himself. But now he was slowly getting back on track with the help of everyone.
Today was your mother's birthday, and as always the whole family gathered at your parents house. Because they still considered Drew as their family, they invited him too. He gladly accepted the invite, feelings touched by the love and support you all showed him.
You were currently standing in the kitchen, grabbing a drink for your father when you heard Drew's voice coming from the living room. He just came, and everyone was greeting him. After a moment he appeared in the kitchen as well, intending to grab a drink of his own.
He walked up to the counter beside you, grabbing a glass. You and him never were particularly close cause he focused on his life with your sister and family, while your main focus was your career as a lawyer so you never really crossed paths except for holidays and his wedding.
You both stood in silence for a moment, before he finally broke it "hey" he said quietly, not looking at you. You looked identical as your dead sister, which you figured might have been the reason he didn't attend the family meetings for the past year "I haven't seen you in a long time" he added after a while, but his gaze was still averted from you.
