Inspired by the song Golden Hour by JVKE
The light came slowly. Not suddenly, not harshly, but softly, golden, almost cautiously, as if it wanted to make sure it was allowed to stay. The sun was low, bathing everything in a warm glow that made the moment quieter than it actually was.
You stood by the window, your fingers loosely resting on the frame, as the last rays of the day glided over your skin. It felt as if the world held its breath for a moment. Everything was slower. Gentler. Behind you, it was quiet until you heard the faint sound of footsteps. "There you are…"
His voice was quieter than usual, almost… reverential. John stepped closer, without haste, as if he, too, was afraid of breaking this moment. No effort, no pressure, no weight on his shoulders. Just him. Just here. The light hit him perfectly, softening the contours of his face, momentarily lifting all the hardness he usually carried.
You turned slightly toward him, and for a moment neither of you spoke. Because words wouldn't have been enough. He paused, just a step away, as if he had to decide whether he was allowed to touch this moment. His eyes were on you, as if you yourself carried this light.
"You look..." He trailed off, shaking his head almost imperceptibly, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "Yeah. That's my golden hour."
You laughed softly, barely audible, but it was enough to stir something within him. Slowly, he raised his hand, as if every movement were significant, and brushed a loose strand of hair from your face. His fingers lingered a moment longer, warm, gentle... as if he were getting used to you, even though he knew you so well.
Outside, the light flickered through the trees, dancing across walls, across you, across everything still enough to feel it. And then he drew you closer.
