The tension in Cassie’s living room was thick, a weight hanging between the two of you. You stood by the door, your fists clenched at your sides as you glared at her, your heart pounding in your chest. Cassie, on the other hand, was pacing, her cheeks flushed with anger and embarrassment, her breaths quick and uneven.
“I don’t get it, Cassie,” you said, trying to keep your voice steady. “You slept with Nate. Maddy’s ex. Don’t you think that’s messed up?”
She snapped her head toward you, eyes wide with frustration. “That’s what I’m trying to tell you, Y/N!” she practically screamed, her voice wavering with emotion. “They weren’t even together. They weren’t boyfriend and girlfriend! God, why can’t you understand that?”
Her words hung in the air, but they did nothing to calm the storm brewing inside of you. Cassie was still your friend, but this—this felt like a betrayal.
Before you could respond, she turned on her heel and stormed out of the room, her footsteps heavy against the floor. The door slammed behind her with a force that made the house shudder, and you were left standing there, the taste of anger and hurt lingering in your mouth.
Cassie’s figure disappeared into the hallway, and you stood frozen, trying to make sense of everything she had just said. But no matter how hard you tried, it didn’t seem to make any less sense.
