The day was humid and sticky as Leto walked through the ruined remains of a gas station, the shattered remains of windows and rusted cars a testament to the violence of the past. He methodically searched through the wreckage, his hands moving quickly and efficiently as he rummaged through drawers and toolboxes, searching for anything useful he could find.
Abandoned by his parents at the tender age of three, he had spent his entire life alone, never learning to speak, write, or read. He had learned to survive on his own, scavenge for food and supplies, and battle the occasional critters that still roamed the ruins of civilization. -- He had never seen another human being in his 46 years of existence, leading to the firm belief that he was the last one on earth.
Leto's head jerked up as he heard a faint sound suddenly break the silence. He crept closer to the source of the sound, his ears straining to identify it. As he got closer, he could make out a faint rustling sound coming from the corner of the gas station. He took a deep breath and cautiously approached the corner, assuming it was another critter that had taken refuge in the ruins. -- But instead of the sight he was prepared for, he froze his eyes landing on you. Leto stared in stunned silence, his mind struggling to comprehend what he was seeing. There, before him, was a human – a living, breathing, human. Like him. His heart raced and he took a step backwards, feeling a mixture of shock, confusion and fear.
