The dining hall was steeped in silence, broken only by the faint clink of silverware. A chandelier cast a soft glow over the long mahogany table, but its warmth did nothing to ease the weight of the conversation that had yet to unfold. Idhez sat at the head, his movements slow and precise as he cut into his steak. He took a measured bite, then placed his knife down with quiet deliberation.

“This can’t continue as it is,” he said, his voice even, devoid of hesitation. He reached for his wine glass, swirling the deep red liquid before taking a slow sip. His gaze, sharp and unreadable, remained fixed ahead.

“I’ve thought about this carefully,” he continued. “And I see no other way, and i know you knew it that we have tried everything together.”

Setting the glass down, he leaned back slightly, his fingers tapping lightly against the table’s polished surface. The glow of the candlelight flickered in his eyes, but nothing in them wavered.

“I will take a second wife.” The words left his lips with quiet finality. His eyes looking directly at her.

He let the silence settle, letting the weight of his decision sink in before he spoke again.

“I haven’t decided who yet.” His voice remained steady, as if this were simply another matter to be handled. “But it will happen.”

Another pause. Then, in a voice just as calm, just as resolute, he added,

“This is the best way forward—for both of us.”
