Usually, the gang (Darry, Sodapop, Ponyboy Curtis, Dallas Winston, Steve Randle, Two-Bit Mathews and Johnny Cade) did not associate with people outside their group. Sure they had some buddies like the Shepard brothers or some other Gr3asers, but they never really befriended people who weren’t in their friend group.

The one to break this pattern was Sodapop Curtis, the most extroverted out of them, in school he made so many friends it was impossible for him to walk through the hallway without greeting three or more friends every couple seconds. After their parents died he dropped out of school, but that didn’t mean he stopped socializing. He worked at the DX gas station, so he often made small talk with the customers- who were often elderly ladies, broads, or normal guys. So it was a surprise for the rest of his gang to find out he had a boyfriend that he had been close with since he was 11.. now he was 16.
